[edit] red t-shirt

Can anyone add a sentence or two on the red t-shirt that Doug always wears under his football uniform?

I don't know if it is related - but Doug Flutie grew up in Natick, Massachusetts and graduated from Natick High School. Natick High School's team name is the Redmen and the town slogan is, "home of champions" - of which Doug Flutie is just one. Nonetheless, all this is to say that Natick's color is red - so perhaps this is an old high school jersey.

I had seen one of these "human interest" type stories quite a few years ago about doug and the t-shirt that went something like: it was his older brother's high school shirt, and his brother died in an auto accident, so Doug wears it every game to remember him. But I can't find any evidence to back up my story.

I tried to incorporate this info in the Bio section.
Both of Flutie's brothers are still alive. That story would make a good country western song, but no.

is it true doug flutie is of arab descent?

Yes, I added this information as well. Here are a few sources:

[edit] Rhodes Scholarship nomination at BC

Here's the citation for Flutie's Rhodes nomination and some other aspects of his BC career:

http://graphics.fansonly.com/photos/schools/bc/sports/m-footbl/auto_pdf/flutie-ruth.pdf

I clarified this in the article. It's true that BC nominated Flutie for the Rhodes, but he was not named a Rhodes finalist. A school can name anyone they want, but his candidacy did not go beyond that.

[edit] drop kick

i think it's a little too early to say that the Patriots' last regular season game this year is the last game of his professional career. first of all, I haven't heard him say that he's retiring, and second, the patriots are in the playoffs, and if anything happens to Tom Brady, as far as I know, Flutie will be playing, since he is the backup QB.--Alhutch 22:05, 1 January 2006 (UTC)

He needs Brady and Cassel to get hurt. That's probably why Cassel played today. I also believe that that was edited already. Jjjsixsix 06:04, 2 January 2006 (UTC)
I'd lay odds that if Brady got hurt, they'd put Flutie in during the playoffs rather than Cassel. Just a thought. -Tim Rhymeless (Er...let's shimmy) 06:09, 2 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Top 10 Scrambling QB's

What?? Flute #10 ?? He should be higher than that. I was hoping I would see a mention of Tracy Ham (how many QB's in the NFL lead the league in rushing) or Damon Allen in the top 10. It is like making a hockey list of the top 10 best passing teams in history and forgetting teams from the Soviet Union. Stettlerj 03:54, 16 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Flutie's Future

I didn't put this in as a reference on the page, since (unless you're a paid member) KFFL only displays most recent information, but if anybody wants to check my info, etc: KFFL info on Flutie -Tim Rhymeless (Er...let's shimmy) 03:03, 25 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Arab-American

There is no way flutie is arab-american...look at how white he is and his name! Do you know any arab-americans named Douglas Richard Flutie? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 69.152.115.2 (talkcontribs) .

Yes, oddly enough. He's a former professional quarterback. Powers T 19:53, 10 October 2006 (UTC)

Most Arab Americans are Christians, and yes, they are White. —Preceding unsigned comment added by PassTheYouth (talkcontribs) 18:00, 21 February 2008 (UTC)

Arab-Americans are Semitic not "White". With respect to Flutie's name and complexion, that has little to do with respect to him being an Arab-America or not --209.163.173.127 (talk) 15:42, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

I don't care about our ancestry, what I know is that on government forms and by all people I've met, I as a Lebanese American am classified as White. And to guy who asked, there are plenty of Arabs with the name Douglas, and Frank, and John, and Bill, and all the anglo names you can think of. —Preceding unsigned comment added by LebanonIsCool (talkcontribs) 19:01, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Autism

Nobody's going to rename autism Flutie Disease or any such thing. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 66.65.56.48 (talk • contribs) .

[edit] uh, "Caucasian" ?

I don't know what the Wikipedia policy on this is, but is the quaint term "Caucasian" standard usage here to refer to a white person? Would "white player" be objectionable? "Caucasian" carries a more than a whiff of dated racial pseudo-scientism, imo, and it's fading fast in ordinary usage, at least in North America.

[edit] I Protest

I don't race should have anything to do with football awards. describing him as white is not needed. Why don't we say he was the first brown eyed player to win it in five years, for instance?

I agree that race should not be mentioned since he is white. However, note that nearly every time a black person is the "first" to win whatever (or puerto-rican or whatever) it is mentioned in Wikipedia. There is an inconsistency here. People will say it's okay for "minorities" to do this, but separately claim that we are about to become a nation of minorities. The article is fine with me without the mention, but this needs to be discussed in a higher context in Wikipedia. Either "firsts" or other uniquenesses are mentioned for everybody or they aren't. If they aren't, this is going to eliminate a lot of "first black attendees" category (for example). Student7 14:05, 4 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] CFL stats

Flutie was recently voted the #1 player in CFL history (see TSN Top 50 CFL Players). We need to include his CFL stats in the recently added NFL-retired infobox, or use a different infobox. heqs ·:. 07:49, 18 August 2007 (UTC)
