Douris (tyrant)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Douris (Greek: Δούρις) (ca. 352 BC - ca. 260 BC) was a tyrant of Samos and a descendant of Alcibiades of Athens.
In his old age he wrote a number of philosophical and historical works, including a four-volume biography of Agathocles, a history of Samos, a history of Macedonia, and a 23-volume history of Greece. His work is rubbished by Plutarch in his Life of Pericles, where Plutarch accuses Douris of exaggerating facts to portray the Athenians as vicious and bloodthirsty.
