Douglas Knight

Douglas Maitland Knight (June 8, 1921;January 23, 2005) was an American educator, businessman and author. He was a former president of both Lawrence University and Duke University.

Knight was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts and received his degrees in English from Yale University. He taught literature at Yale and became president of Lawrence University in 1953. In 1963, he became president of Duke University.

Knight was an outspoken advocate on gay and civil rights and a member of GLAAD and the ACLU.
