Douglas High School is a public high school located in the city of Winston, Oregon, United States, in Douglas County. It is part of the Winston-Dillard School District.

[edit] Programs and classes

Douglas High School has an award-winning environmental science program. It was awarded fifth place and Rookie of the Year at the Oregon Envirothon in 2005 and placed 9th and 18th respectively the following years.

The school has produced its own student-directed plays since the 2004 school year, including The Snow Queen and The Goblin by Hans Christian Andersen and No Exit by Jean-Paul Sartre. It also hosts an annual One Act Festival. For the 2006-2007 season, Drama Club will host You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown and John Patrick's A Bad Year for Tomatoes.

The school also has an active newspaper class, which publishes three editions a year. The paper is called The Troy Times.

The DHS Band took 7th place at state in 2006/2007. Last year they had a number of students make it to state in solo and ensemble.

The girls soccer team won first place in its league in fall 2006.

Douglas High School also has a number of sports. For the fall DHS has Football, boys and girls Soccer, Volleyball, and Cross Country. For the winter DHS has Wrestling and boys and girls Basketball. For the spring DHS has Baseball, Track, and Golf.

Douglas is home to many student-run clubs and organizations, including: Drama Club, Inter-School Improvement Organization, Earth Service Corps, Future Business Leaders of America, Future Community and Career Leaders of America, Film Club, Chess Club, Risk, and a number of club sports.

The Inter-School Improvement Organization (INTER-SIO) is a student organization founded in 2003 with the intent of repainting all of the classrooms in Douglas High School. They are currently only four classrooms short of their goal. Every spring break, the club makes a trip to Mexico and Southern California to do volunteer painting, rebuilding and landscaping for local schools, theaters, and other community buildings.

The Future Business Leaders of America are located out of the school's computer technologies department. They own and run the "Student Store." The store is FBLA's primary source of funding. The club is active in both district and state competitions. Every year they claim several top awards at districts. In 2004 they were awarded first place at state for the chapter newsletter category.

Earth Service Corps is a student organization sponsored through the YMCA that allows students opportunites to help their environment and community. They also participate in monthly volunteer activities, which have included helping teachers build their homes and performing beach cleanups. They frequently participate in carwashes as fundraisers.

Future Community and Career Leaders of America is a student organization run from the school's home economics and child care departments. The club bakes and distributes all of its own food which is for sale every morning in the upper hall during Nutrition Break. They offer such foods as pizzas, breadsticks, biscuits and gravy, coffee, tea and ice cream. They actively participate in both state and district competitions.
