Douglas Democrat

Douglas Democrat is a term for those politically aligned with Stephen Arnold Douglas during the 1860 United States presidential election. The core belief of Douglas Democrats was that the status quo should continue -- with the Union in tact and slavery allowed to continue. In the election, only one state voted this ticket -- Missouri.
