Doug Roulstone is an American politician and 27-year veteran of the United States Navy. He was the 2006 Republican candidate for Congress in Washington's Second Congressional District, challenging incumbent Democrat Rick Larsen. Roulstone was defeated by Larsen, receiving 35.8% of the vote to Larsen's 64.2%.[1]

Roulstone had announced his intent to run again in 2008,[2] but dropped out of the race in early January 2008.[3]

Roulstone, born in Norfolk, Virginia, the son of Navy Captain Don John "Jack" Roulstone, graduated from the United States Naval Academy and served as a helicopter pilot for many years, accumulating 3500 flight hours. His first flying assignment was search-and-rescue at NAS Whidbey Island, where he rescued 107 people in the 1975 Snohomish River valley flood. After living there for years, he and his wife decided to make the region their permanent home.

In 1989 Roulstone assumed command of a helicopter anti-submarine squadron in a forward combat role with the Navy SEALs in the initial ground mission of Operation Desert Storm. He was later assigned as the Executive Officer of the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower.

In 1997 he was made the Commanding Officer of the USS John C. Stennis.

Captain Roulstone served in nearly 100 countries, and has been awarded the Bronze Star and Combat Action Ribbon. He was President of the Everett Council of the Navy League.

Roulstone lives in Snohomish County, WA with his wife, Bonnie, and their two sons, Whit and Harrison. He is co-owner of a company that designs and manufactures precision machined parts for companies like Boeing, and employs over 150 people. He started the Machining Pathway Partnership program to supply high-end machining technology to local schools to train them in machine design.
