Doug Herzog

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Douglas Alan Herzog (born July 16, 1959) is an American television executive.

The current president of MTV Networks, Herzog is credited with bringing South Park, The Daily Show, and The Colbert Report to Viacom's Comedy Central. On the flipside, he is also considered responsible for the cancellation of Mystery Science Theater 3000, at the time one of the longest running shows on Comedy Central. (The show would move to the SciFi Network the next year)

He held senior positions with USA Network and Fox, where he helped launch Monk and Malcolm in the Middle. Prior to his first association with Comedy Central, he had been an associate producer on CNN and TBS, and a senior manager at MTV, and was responsible for MTV News, Camp MTV, The Real World, Road Rules, Beavis and Butt-head, The MTV Movie Awards, and The MTV Video Music Awards.

He is also mentioned in the South Park episode Cartoon Wars Part II. While Kyle was giving his speech to the president of the network as Cartman was threatening to shoot him, Kyle calls the president Doug, presumably referring to Herzog, and begs him not to censor a program containing a depiction of the Muslim prophet Muhammad. However, even though Muhammad had previously been shown on South Park, the image of Muhammad was censored by Comedy Central in Cartoon Wars.
