[edit] Biography

Born and raised in California, Doug Fields earned his Bachelors degree from Vanguard University and his Master of Divinity degree from Fuller Theological Seminary. He served as a youth pastor at several churches before becoming the high school pastor of Saddleback Church in 1993, where he earned a national reputation for his growth strategies at Rick Warren's famed church. With more than 20 years of youth ministry experience, he has authored or coauthored more than 30 books, including Purpose Driven Youth Ministry and Help! I'm a Student Leader, eventually becoming "the most famous youth pastor in the world." Purpose Driven Youth Ministry, which Field's wrote in 1998, is still considered required reading in many evangelical Christian university and seminary youth ministry courses.

In 2006, Fields retired as Saddleback's Pastor of Student Ministries and currently serves as Pastor of Life Development, which oversees the children's, student, and college ministries. He is also a teaching pastor and preaches for Warren when he is absent. Fields still occasionally particpates in various high school ministry events at the church and remains connected to HSM. He is also president of SimplyYouthMinistry.com and a frequent speaker at Youth Specialties and other youth ministry conferences. Fields resides in southern Orange County with his wife and three children. Field's oldest child, Torie, is currently a student at Biola University.[1]

Doug is an avid Twitter user and has often been heard on his platinum award winning podcast [2] sharing about his love for the micro-blogging tool as well as his love of blogging. Though Doug does not have his own blog, his administrative assistant, Josh Griffin, hosts a blog, [3] in which he often expounds on his great respect, admiration and all out man-crush which he has developed for Doug over the years.

Also heard on the SYM Podcast[4] Doug has admitted to being a long time fan of the 90's boy-band sensation Hanson and has in fact written them numerous times with requests to be involved in their shows. Doug claims to have never received a response from the band.
