Doug Barnard, Jr.

Druie Douglas Barnard, Jr. (born March 20, 1922 in Augusta, Georgia) is an American politician from Georgia. He attended the Richmond County public schools; graduated, Academy of Richmond County, Augusta, Ga., 1939; attended Augusta College, 1939–1940; A.B., Mercer University, Macon, Georgia, 1943; served in United States Army during World War II[1], 1943–1945; LL.B., Walter F. George School of Law, Mercer University, 1948; engaged in banking profession, 1948–1962; executive secretary to Governor Carl Sanders, Georgia, 1963–1966; board member, Georgia State Department of Transportation, 1966–1976. He is a Democrat. He was a delegate to Georgia State Democratic convention, 1962; a delegate to the 1964 Democratic National Convention. He served in the United States House of Representatives from 1977 to 1993. Barnard served in the U.S. Army
Doug Barnard is an active member of First Baptist Church Augusta. He was married to Naomi Holt "Nopi" Bernard, a poet.
