The Double-Ten Agreement, 雙十協定, is a principle agreement between the Chinese Communist Party and the Kuomintang which took place in the city of Chongqing. The former capital of the Nationalist Government. The agreement was intended to resolve the conflicts between the two parties in order to to construct a new China by a peaceful way. The agreement has established several solutions to some principle problems, however, it lacked practical discussions about the course of actions needed for the liberated territory from the Japanese. Therefore, according to the agreement, both sides would meet again at the 10th January 1946 for furthur discussion.

[edit] Agreements

The agreements discussed were:

1. China should be re-established by methods of peace. Due to the long period of conflicts in the past fifty years including the Second Sino-Japanese War, the rivalry of the warlords and the Northern Expeditions has caused a lot of deaths and turmoil in the country. Through peace, democracy, unity and unification as foundation principles. Seeking long term co-operation between the two parties. Avoiding a civil war. In order to construct a independent, free and strong China.

2. Starting a new Congress or Assembly. Ending the one-party ruling situation and bring democracy into the Chinese politics. This includes the opening of a 'Political Discussion Conference', inviting different parties and their leaders to discuss about the future of China.

3. Replanning and management of the post-war Chinese armed forces. The replanning includes the reduction on the established forces between both parties. Ensuring the army is owned by the state. Stopping the occurrence of warlords in the country.
