A DotPup is a package from the package management system of the same name used in the Linux distribution Puppy Linux. The Dotpup system is a selection of packages created by a users or developers. A dotpup package is very simple. It consists of:
- A compressed file (dotpup.tar.gz) with the program's files inside.
- A file called md5sum.txt containing an md5 checksum for the files.
- A shell script file called dotpup.sh that executes automatically, which checks, extracts and places the files in their locations. It can also add menu entries, desktop icons and other settings for the program.
These are placed inside a .zip file renamed with the .pup extension.
There is a second system, called PupGet which contains official packages which were left out of the standard live CD. If a program is not available in one, it may be in the other, as they are totally separate systems.
