Dos Lunas is a line of ultra-premium tequilas. The company is headquartered in El Paso, Texas. Currently, Dos Lunas offers Dos Lunas Silver; Dos Lunas Reposado; Dos Lunas Anejo; and an Extra-Anejo, Dos Lunas Grand Reserve.
All Dos Lunas Tequilas are all-natural and unadulterated, according to literature provided by the company. The tequilas are produced by Tequilas del Senor in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, under direction from Dos Lunas.
Dos Lunas Silver is unaged tequila as proscribed by the Tequila Regulatory Council (CRT, for its initials in Spanish). Dos Lunas Silver is bottled immediately after distillation and a proprietary chill-filtration process. Dos Lunas Silver received a "Recommended" rating from the Beverage Testing Institute at the 2006 International Review of Spirits.
Dos Lunas Reposado is rested for nine months in a combination of new American oak barrels and used bourbon barrels. The tequila was awarded 94 points at the 2006 International Review of Spirits in Chicago. The tasting notes from that competition praise the tequila as exhibiting "very sweet toasted coconut, caramel, and cocoa aromas. A soft supple entry leads to very smooth off-dry medium to full bodied palate with coconut cream, dried tropical fruit, white pepper, and dusty minerals. Sensational agave fruit and wood character."
Dos Lunas Anejo is aged for eighteen months, and became available in select markets in late 2007. As of this writing, no third party reviews are available.
Dos Lunas Grand Reserve is aged for ten years in French oak casks that were previously used to age Spanish sherry. The tequila is then bottled in Baccarat crystal decanters. Sales materials provided by the company declare it to be the "ultimate rendition of artisan tequila," and "the oldest commercially available tequila in the world." The suggested retail price for Dos Lunas Grand Reserve is $2500.
Dos Lunas Tequila launched their Silver and Reposado tequilas at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival in June, 2006. Dos Lunas sponsors the NightGrass events at the festival. NightGrass is the portion of the bluegrass festival that takes place at venues in Telluride that are licensed to sell alcoholic beverages.
Dos Lunas also sponsored the Luna Si Tour in the summer of 2006, which featured Devo, When in Rome & Psychedelic Furs.
