Dorothy McGowan

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dorothy McGowan (sometimes referred to as Dorothy MacGowan) was a Brooklyn, New York-born model and actress. She was discovered as a talent agent picked her out of a crowd of Beatles fans at Kennedy Airport.[1]

Her sole screen role is for the 1966 French film Who Are You, Polly Magoo?. She was chosen at random from a crowd shot of Beatles girls welcoming the Fab Four at a New York airport.

Her career as a model was also quite successful, including appearing on the cover of Vogue in 1962. Dorothy was a favorite of Richard Avedon, Irving Penn, Melvin Sokolsky, Francisco Scavullo and other top photographers.

She was one of William Klein's favorite models.[2] After the release of the film, which was McGowan's first and only film role, she disappeared from public view and apparently neither acted nor modeled again, according to Klein. She appears to have dropped out of the public view to focus on raising a family and continues to live in New York. She has two children, Damien and Juliet. She was married to photographer Didier Dorot.
