Dorothy Combs Morrison was born in Longview, Texas. The 7th child of ten, on May 8, Dorothy showed early signs of her talents. She began singing at the age of 13 years and released her first single "I Am Free", while singing with her siblings under their family name The Combs Family. Dorothy's continued exposure while appearing with her family at church events led to her talents being noticed by others in the San Francisco and Oakland Bay Area.
She then joined the Edwin Hawkins singers and was the lead vocalist on the Grammy Award winning, Hall of Fame Hymn, "Oh Happy Day". She toured with Edwin Hawkins, Van Morrison, Boz Scaggs, and Bonnie Delaney (Delaney & Friends) among others. She has appeared on hit TV Shows including The Carol Burnett Show, The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson as well as Soul Train and Dance Party.
Dorothy appeared at the Big Sur Folk Festival and the event was captured on film and is titled The Big Sur Folk Festival Movie, which also showcases the talents of other notable singers, such as Joan Baez, Joanie Mitchell and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young.
Dorothy's talents have impressed many fans across the seas, starring in sold-out theater shows produced by her brother, Bill Combs. She has traveled and performed in France, Germany, Japan and Italy. Dorothy's performances are an experience in itself. Her beautiful voice and style have made her welcome at concert halls, cabarets and clubs from California to New York.
At home in the East Bay Area, Dorothy has performed for the Mayor of Oakland in the City Square and in 2002 was honored and awarded with the Key to the City of Oakland.
