[edit] History
The town was founded in 1181. It was destroyed during the Turkish invasion. German settlers and the returned Hungarians rebuilt it throughout the eighteenth century. The Catholic church of Dorog was built in 1765 in baroque style. The city has been connected with Budapest through a railway line since 1895. In 1906, Dorog's power plant was constructed. Dorog also has a Calvinist church, which was constructed by Transylvanian coalminers who moved there after the Treaty of Trianon. A few years after the Second World War, a lot of German settlers were expelled. Dorog became a city in 1984. Its last coal mine was closed in 2004.
