Dora Ratjen

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hermann "Dora" Ratjen (born 20 November 1918) competed for Germany in the Women's High Jump at the 1936 Summer Olympics and placed fourth. In 1938 Ratjen was barred from further competition because of 'ambiguous genitalia'.[1] In 1957, Ratjen came forward and said "she" was actually male (with ambiguous genitalia) and was forced by the Nazi Youth Movement to disguise himself as a woman to compete in the competition.[2] Little is known about Ratjen's life after that.
