I would like to integrate spanish and english pages into a category, any idea how that should be done? Thanks Don Gringo 02:32, 11 December 2005 (UTC)
- You might want to look at Wikipedia:Naming conventions and Wikipedia:Categorization. Punkmorten 10:11, 11 December 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Any photos of the volcanoes themselves??
Don Gringo, do you have any photos of the volcanoes themselves that you could upload?? I do like the photos on the couple of articles that you've written, but Los Tuxtlas needs one or two as does Sierra de los Tuxtlas. Madman 05:21, 10 February 2006 (UTC)
coming soon - Volcanoes of Los Tuxtlas
- Great, Don Gringo! I'll look forward to seeing a photo or two. I would like to merge your recently-created Volcanoes of Los Tuxtlas article into the Sierra de los Tuxtlas article since all these volcanoes are in the Tuxtla Mountains, and the Tuxtla Mountains were created by volcanoes. Madman
los Tuxtlas should be Los Tuxtlas. Volcanoes are a subject to themselves, and although these volcanoes are part of the Sierra de Los Tuxtlas, they deserve their own space, while being referenced within the geographic complex of Sierra de Los Tuxtlas, which is the primary component of the political and touristic area of Los Tuxtlas.
Had enough Tuxtlas?
- I can't understand why the "L" should be capitalized in "Sierra de los Tuxtlas" or indeed in any phrase. "Los" = "the", right?
- I absolutely love the photos you're uploaded, particularly the ones on Sierra de los Tuxtlas and Catemaco. Fabulous.
- Regarding the writing a separate article on the volcanoes, be my guest. I personally think the volcano info should be included in the Sierra de los Tuxtlas article, but whatever . . .
- Thanks, Madman 00:04, 12 June 2006 (UTC)
Check this link and you´ll find the Los in Los Tuxtlas is treated as a proper name http://scholar.google.com/scholar?q=los+tuxtlas&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en&btnG=Search I have no idea how to place a signature block DG
[edit] Municipio
Don Gringo, the term municipio is translated as "municipality" in Wikipedia (and presumably elsewhere), even though it's not what we think of as a municipality. Madman 01:13, 19 June 2006 (UTC)
The political status of a Meican municipio is not equivalent to anything in the US - but any gringo understands the concept of county. And go ahead find me two that will agree on the concept of municipality, which primarily refers to city.
The main city in a municipio is the cabecera, and when another city within the municpio gets big enough it usually breaks up into 2 municipios . That´s why there are 232 or so in Veracruz and about 3600 in Mexico. Nevertheless , gringoistically, it helps to differentiate between purely the city and its surroundings (county), if you can think of another name for that are, be my guest - just as long as it is NOT municipality - which noone in English accepts.
[edit] More Tuxtla photos
Don Gringo:
The photos you mentioned are just gorgeous. One or more of them would be a great addition to Wikipedia. Perhaps the owner would be interested in uploading them?? Madman 15:36, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Looking for Olmec photographs
Hey there, Don Gringo, it's me again, with another request.
I have been writing quite a bit on the Olmec but I feel that the articles are hampered by the lack of photos. You apparently live in the old "Olmec heartland" and I'm wondering if you ever get a chance to photograph Olmec artifacts or Olmec sites. In particular, there is a museum at Tres Zapotes and at San Lorenzo as well the Parque La Venta and the separate museum at Villahermosa.
As you can see, we do have lots of colossal head photos, but a shot of the so-called "altar" and any and all artifacts would be wonderful.
Thanks again, Madman 20:26, 4 August 2006 (UTC)
