[edit] stuff
You haven't been working on this. Did something happen to cause you to want to avoid it?Lvklock (talk) 05:44, 23 February 2008 (UTC)

- Hi. I'm glad you've been improving the writing. I noted your mention that you had ordered a book/article that would support new material on the woman pleading and on the "cheap gifts", so I was thinking there was nothing much to be done. I guess i could finish or at least improve the captions to the photos which i added. By the way, a South Carolina article that I started recently, First Baptist Church (Columbia, South Carolina) got a DYK. I noticed it would be of interest to Bedford, and noted to him that he had done a good job with another DYK and that he might want to look at this one. In fact he developed the article and put in for the DYK. Getting a DYK is not that hard, i still have never proposed one before. I do expect we can get DYK mention for this Weippe Prairie article. doncram (talk) 05:07, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Cheap gifts
I added the ref for the book that has the cheap gifts/woman liking white folks stuff in it the other day. I'm not sure I got it right. Do you use the original copyright date or the latest printing date? Do you want me to scan the section of the book and send it to you?Lvklock (talk) 02:46, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
- Ur doing fine. Offhand i think the more recent printing date is better. Thanks for adding the material, and no need to send, i think u r doing a great job. Besides, I don't believe/know about any way to send/incorporate scanned material within wikipedia, this is a weird world here. I did add more complete captions for 2 of the HABs pics. What needs to be done, what can i do? doncram (talk) 04:19, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
- I will focus on the chep gifts/woman pleading stuff. You can do anything else on the list. What about figuring out the Native American vs. Indian thing? I personally think "first met the Nez Perce Native Americans" sounds stilted and silly, but if we must....So, can you be the political correctness police? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Lvklock (talk • contribs) 17:34, 21 March 2008 (UTC)

- Thank you for adding what you did on the cheap gifts. I think it is too brief to be understood properly as the complaint that it was. The webpage version, which I cannot find now, had stuff about how we injuns gave um good buckskin outfits, and so on. With more detail about the gifts they got. The fact they were comparing specifics is important. Also, I wonder about finding an image, from a painting perhaps, that shows Meriwether Lewis wearing a buckskin outfit, which he famously did (or perhap it was Clark). It is looking good, will read for injun-ness now, and maybe use the word Indian a few times. doncram (talk) 23:00, 5 April 2008 (UTC)
- Hmm i see u do say buckskins already. Still i wonder about making it more clear. Do you happen to have the web version URL? doncram (talk) 23:02, 5 April 2008 (UTC)
- I can look for the url after I get back from dinner. There isn't much to it. "Red Bear made presents of dressed buckskins, and they gave him beads and a few other articles. They afterwards found the white man's gifts to be cheap." —Preceding unsigned comment added by Lvklock (talk • contribs) 23:07, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Done?
OK, I'm done, I think. See if you see anything else that needs doing. Lvklock (talk) 22:09, 5 April 2008 (UTC)
- I made a few edits. Have tried with a picture of Lewis and Sacajawea wearing buckskins. Actually i don't know if it is meant to be Lewis or Clark. Which is the one who was supposedly attracted to / involved with her? Want to say it was that one. Do you think this pic adds or is not sufficiently weippe-oriented? Also, is picture placement good? I would be interested in posting the DYK soon, but maybe wait for a Monday or Tuesday so that it appears Saturday or Sunday, 5 days later. doncram (talk) 23:47, 5 April 2008 (UTC)
[edit] To do list that was on main page
TEMPORARY CHECKLIST:
- Mine the Idaho State Historical Society article.
- Develop about 1806 stay, as well as about 1805 stay. How long did they stay each time. 7 weeks mentioned somewhere.
- Check elsewhere for what is proper usage of Native American vs. Indian terminology; edit article accordingly.
- Re-find, develop source for "cheap" gifts
- Re-find, develop source about the one who pled for not massacreing the expedition.
- Adjust pictures' sizes and placement
- Pick which DYK to try - i like the cheap gifts one too
- Research 1877 Nez Perce War connection
[edit] DYK DRAFT QUESTIONS
- Did you know that... camas root in the Weippe Prairie brought Nez Perce indians there, and hence indirectly saved the Lewis and Clark Expedition? TOO INDIRECT
- Did you know that...the Nez Perce thought they themselves gave nice gifts, but the Lewis and Clark expedition gave "cheap" gifts, upon meeting in the Weippe Prairie? I LIKE THIS ONE. NEED TO GET THE SOURCE AND ACCOUNT INTO THE ARTICLE
- Did you know that...the Lewis and Clark expedition would likely have been fought by the Nez Perce in the Weippe Prairie, but for the pleading of one woman who liked white people from a previous experience? WHAT WAS THE SOURCE FOR THIS? NEED TO GET INTO THE ARTICLE
[edit] For talk page
WIKIPROJECTS to include on Talk page (replace quotes by double squiggly brackets): "WikiProject National Register of Historic Places|class=Start" "NorthAmNative|Start" "WikiProject Idaho|importance=Mid|class=Start"
[edit] DYK info
DYK info is at Wikipedia:Did you know (or shortcut WP:DYK.
The pipeline of DYK nominations in progress are at Template talk:Did you know
The hook fact must be one with an inline citation, i think it is.
The article should be 1500 characters, i think it is.
The article needs to be new. I think we want to create the article as a brand new article, not "move" this one, when we are ready. Instead, open the Weippe Prairie red-link to a brand new article, and cut and paste the article text into it. This starts brand new, with no edit history, and no talk history, which is what we want. doncram (talk) 07:08, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
- OK. Double checked, hook line does have inline citation. 1500 characters is about 2 kilobytes, this is over 6 kilobytes. I took out the stub templates (DYK can't be stub). Do they need to be replaced with something else? I wanted you to have the DYK article, since it was your idea, but then you mentioned somewhere that I was working on the article. So, which one of us should create the new article? Does the same person need to do the DYK? Lvklock (talk) 10:43, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Page Posted
OK, I created the new Weippe Prairie page and posted the DYK. Lvklock (talk) 17:42, 14 April 2008 (UTC)
