Talk:Donovan Baine
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The sentence "He often spares harmless of well meaning Darkstalkers such as Felicia" seems grammatically incorrect. The "of" is extra.
Also he appears in the game Super Puzzle Fighter 2. Perhaps that should be mentioned.
This article is also totally bias, writen by somebody who obviously loves the character and wants to talk him up.

[edit] Vampire Savior retcon?
I don't think Donovan's appearance in Vampire Savior was canon to begin with, considering he wasn't in the original Vampire Savior for the arcades and was only included in the later alternate versions that featured different character roster (Vampire Savior 2 and Vampire Hunter 2). —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Jonny2x4 (talk • contribs) 03:40, 23 December 2006 (UTC).
- IMO, the Donovan in Vampire Savior 2 and Vampire Hunter 2 is either his humanistic appearance during the battle with his darkside, or a mentally projection created by Anita, which is hinted by Dee's ending in Vampire: Darkstalkers Collection. Both can explain why Anita leaves Donovan's fighting scene after he wins or loses, instead of staying with him in Vampire Hunter. Technically, all canon cares about is story. Vampire Savior 2 and Vampire Hunter 2 are new editions of Vampire Savior merely without storyline but for charaters' matching possibility. So it doesn't matter if it's canon or not. --Mato Rei 18:22, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter
It's impossible to ignore the very existence of this similar fiction. Any relationship between it and Anita here? Shouldn't it at least be mentioned somehow? --Mato Rei 17:13, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Discussion
Here's some of my deduction. Please notice that it's just surmise and I have no intention to impose it on anyone.
First, they developed a game named Vampire: The Night Warriors (or Darkstalkers: The Night Warriors out of Japan). Then they were thinking about its sequel Vampire Hunter: Darkstalkers' Revenge but again used a different name for overseas market to avoid some potential copyright problem. And someone of the staff jokingly took the name Anita, from which they had to consider a little as said above, for a side character whom they had no intention to make her a playable one anyway at the moment. Then it turned out that she became very popular by people mostly without awareness of the source of her name. Fans were asking for a playable character but the staff knew if they did it, according what they had designed before, there would be a Vampire Hunter named Anita no matter she grew up or is still a girl, and the joke would be no longer a joke. So they had to not do it. Then it explains everything including the very abnormal appearance of her as a playable character in Marvel Super Heroes. You can checked the page to find out how abnormal it is, comparing with all hidden characters you have ever seen.
Again it's my deduction based on what I know so far. If anyone have some material to demolish it, you are welcome to bring it here. If the material to support it, of couse I desire it. --Mato Rei 11:56, 29 March 2007 (UTC)
