[edit] Dongijeon on Wikisource

Hi,

I'm puzzled as to why the character 濊 doesn't appear in the Wikisource text of the San guo zhi. Unfortunately I don't have a fully authoritative text to compare it to; is this an error in Wikisource, or is there something more complex going on? -- Visviva 05:05, 16 May 2007 (UTC)

The 濊 ("roiling, turbulent; clouded, muddied (as water)") character was not included in some of the earlier 16-bit font tables; it is therefore often substituted in electronic documents by 穢 ("dirty, unclean, filthy, polluted; immoral, obscene"), which shares the same pronunciations and might actually represent a cognate word. It is likely that the online text of San-guo-zhi also replaced the original character, 濊, with the more accessible but historically inaccurate character, 穢. Ebizur 04:12, 6 July 2007 (UTC)
