Donnie D. Avery (born June 12, 1984 in Houston, Texas) is a wide receiver for the St. Louis Rams of the National Football League. He played collegiately for the Houston Cougars. He played high school football at Alief Hastings High School in Houston. He was drafted 33rd overall in the 2008 NFL Draft by the St Louis Rams.

At Hastings High School, Alief, Texas, Avery was a unanimous First-team All-District selection as both a wide receiver and return specialist as a senior. He helped lead the team to the district championship and an 11-3 record, hauling in 36 passes for 502 yards and two touchdowns to lead the District 19-5A receivers in 2002. He also returned 13 punts for 399 yards and three scores, as well as seven kickoffs for 345 yards and one touchdown, in addition to rushing 16 times for 175 yards and two scores.

As a senior at UH Avery made 91 receptions for 1456 yards (16.0 average) and 7 touchdowns. He led Conference USA and ranked fourth in the nation with an average of 112.0 receiving yards per game, while his averaged of 7.0 catches per game also led the conference and ranked 14th nationally. Ended his career with playing in 50 games (starting 42), making 210 catches for 3,289 yards (for a 15.7 average) and 19 toucdown receptions.

Avery was drafted by the St. Louis Rams in the second round, 33rd overall, in the 2008 NFL Draft. He was the first wide receiver taken in the draft. At the NFL combine Avery ran a 4.43 40-yard dash, with a pulled hamstring. At his pro day he ran a a 4.34-40, has run as fast as 4.29 seconds. [1] [2]
