Donna Amato is an American pianist born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Amato's early piano studies included renowned teacher and virtuoso, Ozan Marsh. In the early 1980's, Amato traveled to Europe to study with Louis Kentner in London and with Gaby Casadesus in Paris. Donna also received a scholarship to play for Guido Agosti's masterclass series in Siena, Italy resulting in the series highest honor, the discretionary Diploma d'Onore. Studies in Mexico with Angelica Morales von Sauer lead to concert appearances throughout Mexico as well as additional performances in many European countries, the United States, and radio broadcasts on the BBC.
Recently, Amato has been undertaking the demanding virtuosic music of Kaikhosru Sorabji. She records on the Altarus Records label. Amato has also been performing the works of Ethelbert Nevin, famed composer from her hometown of Edgeworth PA. She has compiled a masterful list of Nevin's works and has performed them both in the studio and live in performances in her home town.
Amato' skills have made her a terrific candidate to perform works of Sorabji and others as it is both difficult to interpret and also difficult to translate. Her performances show both a willingness to translate the art as well as a performers skill in delivering the intent...
