Donna is the first single by British art rock/pop band 10cc. Released in 1972, it peaked at #2 on the UK Singles Chart. The song was written by Kevin Godley and Lol Creme.
"Donna" was originally written as a potential B-side to the song "Waterfall" and was heavily inspired by Frank Zappa's 1950s doo-wop parodies, although it has also been said to be a parody of The Bee Gees.[citation needed] The song features sharp contrasts between falsetto in the chorus and deep monotone vocals in the verse.
Stewart has said: "We knew it had something. We only knew of one person who was mad enough to release it, and that was Jonathan King."
