Donkin, Nova Scotia

Donkin (2001 population: 658) is a Canadian rural community in Nova Scotia's Cape Breton Regional Municipality.

Historically a coal mining area, Donkin is home to a mothballed colliery developed by the Cape Breton Development Corporation (DEVCO) and is currently being reactivated by an international mining consortium.

The community's economy includes the lobster fishing industry, as well as the majority of residents commuting to work in nearby Glace Bay and Sydney.

The community is currently experiencing significant out-migration of young families.
