Dongping National Forest Park

Dongping National Forest Park is located at the north side of the central Chongming Island, the third largest island in China. It is 12 kilometers from Nanmen Port (the county town) connecting to Jianshe on the southern side and neighboring Dongfeng Farm in the western and northern sides. Being 1,700 meters long from east to west and 1,400-2,800 wide from south to north and covering an area of 3.55 kilometers (358 hektares). It is the largest man-planted forest in the Eastern China and also is the biggest forest park in Shanghai.

Dongping National forest Park grew out of Dongping Forest Farm which was enclosed and founded in 1959. Since it was formally open to the public since June 1989, it has attracted thousands of tourists every year. Top Chinese central leaders such as Jiang Zemin, Zhu Rongji, Yao Yilin and Chen Muhua have visited the park. Because of the continuous improvement in its scale and facilities, it was named as Dongping national Forest Park by the Ministry of Chinese forest Industry in June, 1993 and evaluated to be one of the ten new resorts in Shanghai in the beginning of 1997.

Dongping National forest Park is now concentrating as efforts on combining the functions of group forest sight-seeing,touring dung conference healing and recuperating spending holidays as well as recreations and become the most ideal resort for visitors from home and abroad to "Return to the Nature".
