Donegal (Dáil Éireann constituency)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Donegal is a former parliamentary constituency represented in Dáil Éireann, the lower house of the Irish parliament or Oireachtas, covering the whole territory of County Donegal in the North-West of Ireland. Elections were held by the single transferable vote method of proportional representation (PR-STV).

The constituency existed for two separate periods:

  1. From 1921–1937
  2. From the 1977 general election until 1981, when it returned five Teachtaí Dála (TDs) to the 21st Dáil. It was then divided into two 3-seat constituencies, Donegal North East and Donegal South West.
