Donald DeSouza is a fictional character on the British soap opera, Emmerdale. He made his first appearance on 28 October 2007.

Donald made his first appearance in a hospital bed, whilst on life support. He is the husband of Nicola Blackstock, who returned to the village as Mrs. DeSouza, she originally told the community that her husband had died.

[edit] Donald Wakes Up
Donald has recently began to stir while in his coma, making slight movements with his hand witnessed only by a single nurse at Hotten General. In late December Donald regained gaining full consciousness and knowing of his wife Nicola's plan's to get her hands on his fortune. When Nicola began her most recent, Donald began feigning amnesia.

During and just afterwards Donald's coma; Nicola began an affair with David Metcalfe, whom she had met when she went to see the competition between his and Nicola's cleaning businesses.
The couple began sleeping with each other; however when Donald's son - Miles - heard of the relationship, he went to tell his father who presented Nicola with divorce papers. She talked her way out of it - on the condition that she end the affair at once!

On Friday 15, February, Nicola asked Donald's home-help home as well as making sure that Miles was as far a way as possible.
Nicola began to argue about her plans to kill Donald and take all his money - he said that she would not dare, to which she said just watch me...
Nicola prepared a meal for her husband - with cheesecake for afters - she sat him down and began the meal. Meanwhile at the Woolpack David was greeted by Donald's home-help; when he asked where Donald was he said that Nicola was looking after him - David thought the worst and ran to the DeSouza home.
He was greeted by an overturned wheelchair, a broken wine glass, an apparently blood-stained shirt and Nicola cleaning a knife, he asked her what she was doing believing that she had killed him, Donald was however still alive, but had just split red wine down himself and was going to look for a clean shirt.
He asked David if he wanted to join them for cheesecake, to which Nicola said; "The cheese cake is off" - Nicola then began talking to David and revealed that there was poison in the dessert as well as she planned to get her money one way or another, David agreed to help her do so...
David soon realised attempting to kill Donald was a mistake, and when Donald offered him a business, David agreed to end his relationship with Nicola. A desperate Nicola repeatedly tried to kill Donald, through everything from tearing carpet in the stairs to faulty wiring in a train set, but each attempt failed. David finally told Donald the truth.
Donald took Nicola out to the moors and told her she had the perfect opportunity to push him off a cliff. He taunted her by pushing his chair near the cliffs, but to his horror, he wasn't able to stop himself from hurtling forward. Finally at cliff's edge he managed to stop the chair and was flung onto the ground. He told Nicola to pack her bags and get out of his life immediately.

Donald quickly made his mark with his business empire, taking the garbage contract away from the King family, and even more successfully, playing on Carl King's insecurities enough to convince him to join the DeSouza company.
[edit] Arrival of Donald's daughter
It was revealed on Digital Spy on 2nd June 2008 that Donald's daughter, Anna De Souza, will arrive in Emmerdale in July, having traded business in Dubai for life in the Dales. Set to become the next Emmerdale superbitch, the fiery redhead is determined to stake her claim on the De Souza empire and will crush anyone who stands in her way. Carl’s position as Donald’s business partner causes instant rivalry. Actress Emma Davies says: "I'm so excited to be playing Anna and looking forward to joining the fantastic cast and getting stuck into some meaty storylines.“Anna is intelligent and feisty and intends to have fun making her mark on the dales."Anita Turner, Emmerdale series producer, says "Anna is a really interesting character. She seeks her father's approval but everyone else must dance to her tune.“Anna sees opportunities and goes for them. The King Brothers won't know what's hit them!"
