Donald Edward Nottebart (January 23, 1936 – October 4, 2007) was an American right-handed pitcher in Major League Baseball who played for five teams from 1960 to 1969. Primarily a reliever, he spent the 1963 to 1965 seasons as a starter with the Houston Colt .45s/Astros, and threw the first no-hitter in franchise history in 1963. (Audio) He was signed as an amateur free agent by the Milwaukee Braves in 1954. He made his debut on July 1, 1960, and played his final game with the Chicago Cubs on September 6, 1969.
Born in West Newton, Massachusetts, Nottebart is known for giving up Willie Mays' 500th home run on September 13, 1965 before a crowd of almost 20,000 in the 4th inning.
Nottebart also threw a 4-1 no-hitter against the Philadelphia Phillies on May 17, 1963, despite giving up an unearned run. Don Demeter reached base on an error by shortstop J. C. Hartman and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Phillies third baseman Don Hoak.
