[edit] Career

Don Lefevre holds a bachelor of music degree from West Texas State University as well as a master of music degree. His musical experience dates back to his childhood days. While in grade school he attended the WT Band Camp held at West Texas A&M (at the time: West Texas State University). Although he had a love for music, he was never placed in the top ensemble during his attendance at the camp. This never did discourage him, however. He went on to study music at West Texas State University with Dr. Gary Garner. Mr. Lefevre credits Dr. Garner with enlightening him with the vast musical knowledge that he is know for to his students. They are currently still good friends and work together of various projects with the WTAMU band.

After his time at West Texas State, he continued to study saxophone with world renown professor of saxophone Donald Sinta. While there, he became one of the most proficient students of the studio and developed a double tonguing technique that is used by many saxophone performers and teachers today; many of which are students of Mr. Lefevre. He then went on to teach music and eventually became assistant director at West Texas to Gary Garner. After Dr. Garner's retirement in September of 2002, Mr. Lefevre took over the Director of Bands position with Russ Teweleit assisting him. He is currently director of the WTAMU Symphonic Band (known as "The sound of West Texas"); Associate professor of music; Professor of saxophone; and instructor of graduate level conducting.

Don Lefevre recently turned over his responsibilities of overseeing the WTAMU marching band to Dr. Russ Teweleit in 2008. He is an active conductor, guest clinician, and performer. The Band is scheduled to perform at the Texas Music Educators' Association annual convention/conference held in San Antonio, Tx in February of 2008. This will mark the bands 12th appearance at the convention. The program is reported to include Professor Emeritus (WTAMU) Dr. Gary Garner as a guest conductor on a featured selection written by Professor Emeritus (WTAMU) Norman Nelson.
