This song was originally recorded by a group called "Lone Justice". Loveless and her brother, Roger Ramey, heard the song while driving with Tony Brown. All of them agreed it would be a good song for her to record, as the ballad fit her music skills quite well. Marie MacLean, songwriter Bryan MacLean's sister, at the studio. Marie told Loveless that she was singing/recording the song the way her brother had always intended.

When released, Loveless' recording of it went to #5 on the charts. The song charted for 17 weeks on the Billboard Hot Country Singles and Tracks chart, reaching #5 during the week of 6 May 1989.
