Don't Drink the Water is a 1994 television movie directed by Woody Allen, based on a play he wrote in the 1960s. It was the second filmed version of the play, after the 1969 version, starring Jackie Gleason, left Allen unsatisfied. The story revolves around a family of American tourists (played by Allen, Julie Kavner, and Mayim Bialik) who get trapped behind the Iron Curtain. Michael J. Fox plays the bumbling American ambassador.
The play has seen numerous successful runs on both big and small stages
[edit] Trivia
This is the second filmed version of Woody Allen's play, the first was in 1969, and starred Jackie Gleason in the lead role. Woody Allen hated the adaptation so much, that he felt the need to do it himself. It marks the second time Allen did work for TV, after Men of Crisis: The Harvey Wallinger Story, in 1971.
