"Don't Believe the Hype" is the second single of Public Enemy's second album, It Takes a Nation of Million to Hold Us Back. The song's lyrics are mostly about the political issues that were current in the U.S. at the time of its release. Don't Believe the Hype also charted #18 at U.S. Hot R&B.

The popular Canadian teen drama Degrassi: The Next Generation, which is known for naming each episode after an 80s hit song, named an episode after this song. The episode treated the issue of racism.
