The Don't Do It Campaign is a campaign started by a group of skateboarders and a company named Consolidated Skateboards committed to a movement that describes itself as "dedicated to preserving the soul of the skate, surf, and snowboard industry."[1] The campaign's main argument is predicated on a belief that skateboarding should be free from the influence of large corporations like Wal-Mart[2] and sporting goods stores like Dick's Sporting Goods.[3] These businesses sell skateboard and snowboard merchandise in their stores. "Don't Do It" claims that skateboarding is an original individual endeavor, and should not be subject to the profit-making policies of the business world.
The "Don't Do It" name and logo are a pun on the Nike logo and marketing slogan Just Do It. In late 2006, Nike introduced their new line of skate shoes,[4] several decades after "Don't Do It" claims that individuals skateboarders had built their own reputation and a skateboarding culture.[5] Other companies included on the Don't Do It blacklist are Adidas, and Reebok.
