Domiziana Giordano

Domiziana Giordano is an artist, actress and video artist born September 4, 1959 in Rome.
Giordano is an artist, actress, video artist, net.artist and photographer who bases her work on researching new interactivities between various disciplines and across the study of language,communication and sociology. It is a unique fusion of interactive contents and structures which reveal a new method of narration, digging deep into the roots of visual art, the science of semiotics, cinema and new technology.
She grew up in a family of artists and architects and developed a strong awareness and comprehension of visual arts. She studied architecture but soon decided to dedicate herself full time to the visual arts.
After completing her studies at the Academy of Dramatic Art in Rome, she furthered her research at the Stella Adler Studios in acting and in New York and at The New York Film Academy in films direction. After her studies she continued to work on visual arts and photography, she began her career as an assistant director for stage and film.
Domiziana Giordano soon went on into a high profile professional career in the cinema, in which she played the lead role in films directed by cutting edge International Film Makers including; Nicholas Roeg, Jean Luc Godard, Andrei Tarkovsky, Mauro Bolognini, Neil Jordan, Ken McMullen and many others.
Giordano first appeared on screen in Mario Monicelli's Amici miei Atto II in 1982. In 1983 she appeared as female protagonist in Andrey Tarkovsky's Nostalghia. In 1986 she won International Fantasy Film Award at Fantasporto for her lead performance as Zina the daughter of Leon Trotsky in Ken McMullen's award winning film: Zina(1985). Giordano also played roles in such films as Jean-Luc Godard's Nouvelle vague (1990) and Neil Jordan's Interview with the Vampire: The Vampire Chronicles (1994).
Besides her visual art works, she has also written poetry and articles about history of the Art Critic that have been published in a very prestigious literary magazine in Italy. Her photographic work had a nomination on the Rencontres Internationales de la Photographie de Arles in 2002 . She is also collaborating with the online magazine Nova of the Italian newspaper Il Sole 24 Ore.
