[edit] History
Domino's Pizza Australia began in Red Hill, Brisbane, in 1978 as Silvio's Dial-A-Pizza, established by brothers Silvio and Fel Bevacqua. Silvio's Dial-A-Pizza began Australia's first home delivery service in 1980. By 1993, Silvio's had over 70 locations. In 1993, Silvio's bought the master franchise for the international Domino's brand in Australia and New Zealand. Between 1995 and 1996, all of the Silvio's and Domino's groups merged and Silvio's was re-branded as Domino's. [7]
On Monday, 18 December 2006 it was announced that Domino’s Pizza Australia New Zealand would change its name to Domino's Pizza Enterprises to reflect its global reach.[8]
In January 2007, it was reported by The Sydney Morning Herald that Domino's Pizza Enterprises had purchased a 17-shop chain in the Netherlands and eight shops in Belgium for an undisclosed amount and comes six months after Domino's Pizza Enterprises purchased the master franchises for the two countries.[9]
Dominos announced a 30% drop in profit for the full 2007 financial year on a 33.1% increase in revenue. Dominos Corporate Developments contributed $2.5 million in profit, highlighting the continued reliance on new store openings. Same store sales decreased in Australia with big concerns regarding operations in Melbourne, Victoria. Number of coporate owned stores remains high at 27% in relation to competitors Eagle Boys 1% and Pizza Haven 4%.
In October 2007, it was announced that they will expand and add at least 35 stores in Europe every year until it hits the target of 1000 stores.[10]
