Dominican University of California is an independent university of Catholic heritage located 12 miles north of the Golden Gate Bridge in Marin County, California. Founded in 1890 by the Dominican Sisters of San Rafael, Dominican enjoys a century-long reputation for excellence in scholarship, research, and community outreach. The University offers more than 60 programs of study that reflect the diversity and creativity of the faculty and students. With almost 2,000 graduate and undergraduate students and a student to faculty ratio of 11:1, Dominican is able to successfully blend personal direction associated with smaller schools with the academic resources of a larger university[neutrality disputed].

Dominican’s focus on interdisciplinary studies provides a challenging academic environment. In the sciences, the University excels at involving undergraduates in sophisticated research projects that enable students to present at national academic conferences and publish alongside their faculty mentors in peer- reviewed journals. In the humanities, students can combine dance and musical performance with the study of philosophy, literature, world cultures, and religion. Dominican also offers strong undergraduate professional programs in business, education, and nursing, in addition to graduate offerings in these disciplines as well as counseling psychology and occupational therapy. U.S. News & World Report ranks Dominican University of California in the top tier of "Western Universities - Master's."

Approximately 40 percent of undergraduate students are of ALANA heritage (African American, Latino, Asian American or Native American); of the total student body, 23 percent are men and 77 percent are women. Students come from across the United States, although primarily from the Bay Area and Northern California, and from 21 foreign countries, including Brazil, China, Ireland, Japan, Russia, Spain, Taiwan, Thailand, and Turkey.

More than 70 percent of students attending Dominican receive financial aid. The University offers a four-year guarantee: any student who carries a full course load and meets all the requirements for eight consecutive semesters will graduate in four years or spend a fifth year at Dominican tuition-free.

The National League for Nursing subsequently accredited the program in 1987. In 2004 both the master's and baccalaureate programs received accreditation from the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education confirming the substance and high quality of the Department's programs

Dominican Nursing enjoys great popularity and a competitive status. The Department receives many reports of its graduates being highly desirable in the work force and are well-regarded by the community. They hope you will enjoy your exploration of our Undergraduate and Graduate programs and their curriculums. The Nursing Department believes that nursing is a great career for you to be entering at this time. Our goal is to see that every student on campus who wants nursing and meets the minimum requirements will have a space in the program. Students who are admitted to the university as nursing majors are tracked based on their completion of 14 prerequisite courses, GPA in these prerequisites, length of time on campus, and so on. If you are admitted to Dominican University of California as a nursing major, it is assumed that you will be admitted to the nursing program as long as you satisfy the minimum entry requirements.

Minimum Requirements The GPA requirement for entering the nursing program is different than the requirement for admission to the university. In order to be accepted into nursing, students must pass (or have in progress) all prerequisites with a minimum GPA of 3.0 (a 'C-' grade is not considered passing).
