Dominic Anciano (born 1959) is an English producer, actor, director, writer and comedian best known for his role as Sgt. Dominic de Sade in the British comedy television series Operation Good Guys.
His first notable work was Philip Ridley's The Reflecting Skin where he was one of four production staff including Jim Beach, Dian Roberts and Ray Burdis. Since then, his own career and that of Ray Burdis have developed side-by-side. They were hired as co-producers for The Krays, also written by Philip Ridley.
In 1995, Philip Ridley's production due returned to work on his film The Passion of Darkly Moon. Co-financed by the UK, Germany and Belgium this film attracted big American stars in the form of Brendan Fraser and Ashley Judd but failed to impress critics. 1995 also saw Burdis and Anciano step away from the Ridley fold to work on Stephen Norrington's Death Machine, where they also made cameo appearances as corpses is a restaurant.
In 1997, both turned to their own creations - jointly writing, directing, producing and starring in the TV series Operation Good Guys. Anciano appeared as Sgt. Dominic de Sade (the first of several productions where he would cast himself using his own forename) and Burdis appeared as Det. Sgt. Ash.
In 1998 and 2000, Anciano and Burdis produced two films, Final Cut (1998) and Love, Honour and Obey (2000). Similar to Operation Good Guys these films were jointly written, directed, produced and acted in by the duo. Both films named characters after the actors that were hired to play them, a familiar cast from previous Anciano / Burdis productions:
- Sadie Frost, who had been given a small part in The Krays, appeared as a central character in both films.
- John Beckett ("Strings" in Operation Good Guys) appeared in both films.
- William Scully, a regular guest actor in Operation Good Guys appeared in both films.
- Perry Benson had appeared in Operation Good Guys
- Ray Burdis' brother Mark, who had appeared in The Krays and Operation Good Guys played parts in both films.
Since 2000, Anciano has not had any major works aside from the directing of a documentary featuring Sadie Frost, called What Sadie Did Next. In 2006 he directed several workout dvds: 'Pacha Dance Workout', 'Jennifer Ellison's West End Workout' and the 2004 Pop Idol winner's weight loss dvd called 'Michelle McManus - The Lifeplan Workout'.
