Domiciano Cavém

Domiciano Barrocal Gomes Cavém (Vila Real de Santo António, 21 December 1932 – Alcobaça, 12 January 2005) was a Portuguese footballer who played for SL Benfica. He played first as an extreme-forward, later as a midfielder and a right-defender. Not as skilled as teammates Mário Coluna, José Augusto and Eusébio, he was, nevertheless, one the great Portuguese players of his time, for his versatility in the field.

He spent almost his entire career in Benfica, from 1955/56 to 1969/70, were he won the titles of National Champion, in 1956/57, 1959/60, 1960/61, 1962/63, 1963/64, 1964/65, 1966/67, 1967/68 and 1968/69, and the Cup of Portugal, in 1957, 1959, 1962, 1964 and 1969. He also won the Champions Cup finals in 1961 and 1962, and played and the 1963 and 1965 finals.

He had 18 caps for Portugal National Team, scoring 8 goals, from 24 March 1957, in a 0-1 defeat to France in a friendly match, to 24 June 1965, in a 0-0 tie with Brazil in another friendly match. He played in the 1966 World Cup qualifying matches, but was left out of the squad that participated in the finals.
