Domenico Merlini

Domenico Merlini (Polish: Dominik Merlini) (February 22, 1730 - February 20, 1797) was a Polish-Italian architect, whose works were mostly in the classical style.
[edit] Life and Style
From 1750 until his death Merlini lived in Poland. In 1768 he became a nobleman and in 1773 the Royal Architect. He is most famous for his Łazienki Park in Warsaw. He built a number of public and private buildings in Warsaw and other polish cities, often working together with Jan Chrystian Kamsetzer and Johann Christian Schuch. The style of his work is typical for the image of Warsaw in the era of Stanisław August Poniatowski, called Polish classicism. Merlini was partly influenced by Palladio and carried some late-baroque elements in his work, such as the abundant use of gold.
