From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Domenico "Italian Dom" Cefalu (b. 1947) is alleged to be the acting underboss of the Gambino crime family and leader of the organization's Sicilian faction.[1]
He was formally inducted into the Gambino family by late boss John Gotti in 1991. Cefalu was a member of the Sicilian/Zip crew headed by Pasquale Conte, which was based in Queens and Brooklyn in New York. In 1996, Cefalu was convicted and sentenced for criminal contempt in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York. After several lengthy sentencing hearings, the court sentenced Cefalu to 33 months in prison.[2] Cefalu was reportedly named official family underboss by acting boss and former ally of John Gotti, John D'Amico.[3]
In early 2008, Cefalu was indicted in the Operation Old Bridge investigation. As of April 2008, Cefalu is being held at the Brooklyn Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC)
