[edit] License tagging for Image:LhfdKiani.JPG
Thanks for uploading Image:LhfdKiani.JPG. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:
This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 10:07, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Fisherjs
Hi Fisherjs and thanks for the message. I have many pages I would like to help expand and create, and I have some free time at work to do so ;). I surmounted the problem of creating layouts by freely copying existing articles and replacing the content, but this leaves me some problems:
Images: I am sorry but there are so many pages on Images that I cannot make sense of all of them. I see several images used on lots of pages that would make some of my doubts disappear, however reading the rules, it makes me think lots of uses use images a bit too freely. Some singers or artits have no pictures on their pages. I wonder if this is because of lack of interest or legal reasons? For example lots of big actors don't have pictures on imdb.com and I wonder why.
To avoid incurring in using images from the press I could stick to using pictures that are in the album artwork (and pictures found inside it) and stating the origins and adding tags. Do you consider my tag for the image LhfdKiani.jpg to be suitable for usage or is it likely to be deleted?
Thanks and have a nice day --Dollvalley 12:12, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
- First of all, I know how you feel with several places to look for info. I felt the same way when I started. I'm not an expert on images, but I have uploaded my fair share (just over 100) and they have mostly been album covers. It seems that you didn't select "album cover" in the drop-down for Image:LhfdKiani.JPG but DID for Image:LhfdKiani.jpg so I think you should be OK using the image with lowercase jpg (All I ever do is select "Album or single cover" for the licensing and put "cover art for [[name of album article here]]" for the summary). As for why some (famous) people don't have images...I'm not sure. Someone a while back left a message on my talk page about this very issue and I have always only used the album covers in infoboxes on album pages. Lastly, if you get really jazzed about uploading album covers, we currently have a bit of a backlog and could use your help! Hope that helps. Happy editing. --Fisherjs 13:04, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for the reply. When you say "drop-down", what do you mean? The only time I heard of drop-down was with drop-down boxes, where you select items from a list. Is that what you mean? Because you make your reply sound as though as if there is a complete template thing on here for album covers so that you don't have to waste so much time every time like I have? Do you have a perfect example of yours I can use as reference? Another user who helped me suggested I look at Image:HGG.jpg. That one seems fine. Can I use all those rationales for every cover? The seem to cover pretty much everything. --Dollvalley 13:30, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
- I am referring to the drop-down list next to "Licensing:" on the upload page. I see what you mean about the rationales; I never do anything but hit that drop-down and fill in the summary with a link to the album article. Selecting "Album or single cover" from the drop-down gives you that {{albumcover}} template, which I think is totally sufficient. And you make it sound like you are not using the upload page with the drop-down list. What were you doing? Sorry if you have wasted some time; there is a learning curve here on WP, but it's steep! Don't be discouraged. --Fisherjs 14:22, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
Hehe thanks, yes I know, but I can alraedy see that the more you try the faster you'll go towards reaching the top of that steep road. I have seen the drop-down box next to licensing now, it escaped me before, totally. It explains a lot of references that I was not able to find before. However now the choices are infinite. I will continue and try to emulate other examples. One might think that articles about Madonna have been thoroughly checked by her people so i will consider some of her examples. One last question: if you obtain permission from the person to use a photo, how do you proceed? Do you have to state how and when you did, and produce some proof? (I actually emailed the singer in question through her website, as she seems approachable given her relatively niche-d popularity. I haven't been discouraged yet and thank you for the kind support. --Dollvalley 14:41, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
- Hrm...Don't know about obtaining permission to use a photo. Could, of course, try
{{helpme}}
to call for assistance. Also, for good examples (and already established guidelines) try WP:ALBUM. Cheers! --Fisherjs 14:49, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
Hi Fisherjs, one last thing. I have prepared scans of lots of singles and am creating articles and learning new things. Since to actually "get" the manual of style here it would take repeated readings, can you direct me to a perfect album or single page? THanks Dollvalley 10:21, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
- You are scanning? Are images not available on the web anywhere? Anyhow, for singles, it appears that the Songs Project has this: Wikipedia:WikiProject_Songs#Models. For albums, other than the general guidelines at WP:ALBUM which are not too lengthy, following MrFizyx's lead is not a bad idea at all. Also make note who modifies "your" articles and look at their contributions to see how they are making other album articles conform. Cheers! --Fisherjs 10:49, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
Yes I prefer to scan my own cds instead of borrowing etc, also I can be 100% sure that what I am tracklisting corresponds to the actul image I'm uploading etc. One thing that I cannot figure out how to add is the table of contents. It is invisbile and yet it's on the page, but now on the edit the page tag. I finished the major edit on the Let The Music Play page and after a couple of minutes the table appeared just like that and I see no other contributors to the page. The singles examples are great, however I am doing articles on semi-unknown singers so to find all the informatio is virtually impossible, so I wil try to find a standard scheme and stick to it so there is some conformity among a singer's pages.Dollvalley 11:13, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
Fisherjs, some idiot has edited the title on the caption of the album Long Hard Funky Dreams to make it sexual adding "oooooh yeaahh!!!". Now, there was no history of this, how is that possible?Dollvalley 15:39, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
- I am going to assume you don't know about the history page for each article. Check here and check out the line that reads "15:28, March 16, 2007 216.11.121.21 (Talk)". Every edit is saved on WP, so you can always check what edits were made in the past (and who (or is this case, which IP address) made them). "History" is a tab at the top of every article. Hope that helps. Anyhow, looks like you reverted the vandalism. --Fisherjs 15:50, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
Yes I kinda know what the history page is, however the only change I saw that was done by someone other than me or you was done to the TALK page, so I thought that was not it.Dollvalley 11:11, 17 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Grace (band)
I'm glad you have come along. You will note from the article history that the article has previously been hijacked. Good luch in your endeavour! Ohconfucius 02:36, 19 March 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for the wishes Ohc, however, what does hijacked exactly mean used in this context? Dollvalley 09:26, 19 March 2007 (UTC)
- I wanted to point out to you that someone took the article and put content into it designed to change the subject of the article. I don't think it is anything to be concerned about as such. The person has done it twice, but appears to have now gone away now after I restored it. If you put some more, good quality content into the article, I think it even less likely for it to happen again. Ohconfucius 02:27, 20 March 2007 (UTC)
Ah, I see. I think there is still some debate over the different Grace bands that were around. Was that the reason for this? Was is a wikipedia admin/mod decision to lose the "dance act" label? I think that not only does it fit better with what Perfecto's Grace was, but it would help substantially separate the two bands.Dollvalley 09:38, 20 March 2007 (UTC)
- The "dance act" label is not lost. The name space still redirects here. At the time of the hijack, Grace (rock band) was a brand new act with no track record (sic) had not even released a single, thereby failing WP:MUSIC, thus I reverted it. Nevertheless, someone saw fit to create an article for them separateley nonetheless. Ohconfucius 01:57, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:LhfdKiani.JPG)
Thanks for uploading Image:LhfdKiani.JPG. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. cohesion 04:54, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] The Art Of Love
Hi... thanks for your comment re the Sandra album. The second single info is based on the fact that her record comany (Virgin Germany) have mailed out promotional items for the second single. Should the second single not get a release, the info will not doubt be updated. As and when a 3rd single is released, it will be added. InternationalHit2 08:55, 19 April 2007 (UTC)
- well for the sake of content and quality of the article it could be expanded with explaining the promotional status of this single, I have seen many examples of how a case like this should be treated, I think it would read much better, but since I guess you created the article I'm not gonna butt in ;). Personally I would write something like "The single releases from this album are "The Way I Am", with XXXX being currently promoted throughout Europe/Germany and has a scheduled release date of....." SOmething along those lines... Dollvalley 09:04, 19 April 2007 (UTC)
