Dolphin Mall is a popular shopping mall that is located in Doral, Florida, a suburb city west of Miami. There are over 240 retail outlets and name brand discounters as anchors.
The Mall opened on March 1, 2001 and the first of four Taubman Malls to open that year. (The Shops at Willow Bend north of Dallas, International Plaza and Bay Street in Tampa, and The Mall at Wellington Green south of Palm Beach.)
The mall is a "Mills" like mall similar to Taubman's other outlet mall, Great Lakes Crossing, and south Florida's largest outlet mall and Dolphin's major competitor, Sawgrass Mills. However, the mall is divided into three districts: Playa (Beach), Ramblas (Walk), and Moda (Fashion) and has nine zones.
With 1,400,000 square feet (130,000 m²) of retail selling space, it is the 2nd largest mall in Miami-Dade County. Near to Florida International University, it is a popular hang-out place for students.
When the mall was first planned in 1998, Dolphin Mall would have over 2,200,000 sq ft (204,000 m²)., a roller coaster, a 28-screen Regal Cinemas, and over 300 shops. Once Taubman Centers owned property rights in 2000, the center was downsized to its current size of 1,400,000 sq ft (130,000 m²)., no roller coaster, and a 19-screen Cobb Theaters was built in the second level in the "Ramblas" Zone.
