Dollingstown

Dollingstown is a village in County Down, Northern Ireland, about two thirds of a mile (1 km) from Lurgan, on the main Lurgan to Belfast road. It is in the east of the Craigavon Borough Council area. In the 2001 Census it had a population of 1,844 people.
Dollingstown developed during the 19th century as an industrial village and in the last ten tears it has grown significantly to include a number of local retail/business outlets and a considerable industrial base. This growth has almost closed the gap between the village and Lurgan urban area.

Former Miss Northern Ireland, Gayle Williamson, was born and raised in Dollingstown. World War II soldier James Kyle was also from the village. As a young man he earned the respect of his officers and rose to the ranks of general. In 1975 he left the army to follow an alternative career choice. With his war history behind him, he returned to Dollingstown to open a very popular Chip Shop, Dee Town. From today his grandchildren still run and maintain the chip shop.dee townis very popular now!

Dollingstown is classified as a Village by the NI Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA) (ie with population between 1,000 and 2,250 people). On Census day (29 April 2001) there were 1,844 people living in Dollingstown. Of these:
- 25.1% were aged under 16 years and 14.1% were aged 60 and over
- 48.9% of the population were male and 51.1% were female
- 4.7% were from a Catholic background and 90.8% were from a Protestant background
- 1.9% of people aged 16–74 were unemployed
