From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
- Images in category pages : disdvantages
- May be distracting and categorizing images has potential NPoV issues
- Images are handled in Commons namespace by default
- Following link to image file link is confusing (not an article, minimal info)
- May not show up on front page of big categories
- Images in category pages : advantages
- Quickly find "all the images in Wikispace" on a topic
- Quickly group "all the images in Wikispace" on a topic (without authoring new or redundant text)
- Image thumbnails are on the same page as text links to detailed articles
- The Bosch category is a much shorter page than the Bosch article
- Categories are used more for navigation and browsing
- Thumbnails can be enough to identify paintings
- Images in a summary article : disadvantages
- Shares other dis / advantages with Wikipedia:Lists
- Articles are longer pages than category pages
- Repeats information found in (intro) of detailed artilces
- Manually coding and formatting image into article
- Lead sentence of such an article should be a "critical review" of all his work, as a whole (a challenging topic).
- Images in a summary article : advantages
- Articles are longer (more descriptive) than category pages
- Wiki namespace (vs. category namespace)
- A good place to merge stubs about his paintings (with or without images)
- Detailed articles can be linked with template for see: Main Article: <<painting>>
- Organize images into Commons categories : topics
- Commons template pulls users out of wikispace, whch can be confusing
- More difficult to inter-link in Commons cat pages back to Wiki namespace articles (inappropriate?)
- May be in a different hierarchy than the Wikispace category
- All photos in Wiki would need to be tagged with NowCommonsThis (which is a good thing).
