I came to this page and was surprised to find the Pug in the list. I have searched various sites and cant find any history on the pug being anything other than a companion dog. Can anyone varify its existance in this list? Tekana 21:01, 15 August 2005 (UTC)
- Ihave my doubts about French Bulldog as well. Elf | Talk 21:08, 15 August 2005 (UTC)\
Both Pug and French Bulldog were fighting dogs. WritersCramp 22:03, 15 August 2005 (UTC)
- Could you state your sources? As i have mentioned, I have searched several different sites and books and can not see and indication that they were used for fighting at any point in history! Tekana 22:22, 15 August 2005 (UTC)
- Pug I agree that the Pug should be removed from fighting dogs. It was bred with some fighting dogs to help create a shorter neck and better jaw, but it is to small a contribution to keep on the fighting dog list and category, it should be removed. WritersCramp 22:51, 15 August 2005 (UTC)
- French Bulldog might be a partial decendent of the now extinct Chincha Bulldog, which was probably a fighting dog. However, I agree that the FB should be removed from the list and the category. WritersCramp 22:51, 15 August 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Removing catg:Dog breeds
WC: Please familiarize yourself a bit more with all of the articles and categories in the dog world at Wikipedia. You'll notice that Category:Dog breeds clearly states to see "Category:Dog types for groups of breeds such as collies, fox terriers, working dogs, hounds, and so on." You'll also notice that all of these types--for example, water dog, hunting dog, herding dog, and so on--also include lists of applicable breeds but do not appear under Catg:Dog breeds. And similarly category:Terriers is a member of dog types, not of dog breeds. That's because all of these articles &c atgs, just like the fighting dogs list and the fighting dogs catg, are about certain types or groups of dogs, not about a specific breed. I'm again removing catg:dog breeds to make it consistent with all other similar types of articles. Elf | Talk 23:23, 15 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Manchester Terrier
Why are Manchesters up here? I have never found anything on this breed to indicate that they were ever used as fighting dogs. Ratters, even competitive ratters, and racers, yes, but not pit fighting dogs. The Manchester page does not indicate that, either. Unless I read the title of the category wrong and this category is for all dogs used in blood sports, then I don't think they should be in here.
[edit] BOXERS???
Boxers were most definitely used as fighting dogs...as a matter of fact they are still used today!! So, why does someone keep deleting this when I put it up?? Read everything about Boxers and you for sure will find out that Boxers used to be fighting dogs! Please leave it up! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.61.107.176 (talk) 03:37, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
