Doel is a subdivision of the municipality of Beveren in the Flemish province of Oost-Vlaanderen. It is located near the river the Scheldt, in a polder of the Waasland.
To the north of Doel one can find an Electrabel nuclear power plant with 4 reactors with a total output of 2,800MW delivering electricity to customers in Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany.
Recently, Doel has seen a large number of squatters among its population, since most of the original people have moved out due to the future enlargement of the harbor of Antwerp, which has seen many people opt to sell their homes to development corporation of that enlargement. In 2007 the last of the remaining residential permits will expire, and Doel will be turned into an industrial area.
