looks a bit empty here... ah well, newbies etc..

Welcome!

Hello, DocendoDiscimus, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! By the way, please be sure to sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~) to produce your name and the current date, or three tildes (~~~) for just your name. If you have any questions, you can post to the help desk or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome!  BlankVerse 17:51, 11 September 2005 (UTC)

hi, thanks for the welcome! took me a bit to find out about the ~'s. This Wikipedia thing is quite addictive! My main area of expertise is finance (in particular bonds & derivs), and there's a lot of work to be done there... Hope to be able to contribute a lot though! DocendoDiscimus 16:24, 12 September 2005 (UTC)
You might start with one article on a topic that you are interested in and then look at the category or categories that they are in for similar articles. For the financial articles on the Wikipedia I've seen too many of them that are written in a manner that only a PHD in Economics would be able to understand the article, and others that seem to be touting someone's pet stock theory, but I do not know enough to be able to copy-edit either type of article. [edit] Wikilink Re-Directs

Why are you creating Wikilink re-directs? It is Wikipedia's goal to ELIMINATE them. You added "U.S." to "Securities and Exchange Commission" in some articles, this just causes a RE-DIRECT. Why? WikiDon 08:16, 27 September 2005 (UTC)

the name should be U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (which is also the term they use themselves, see [1]). Trying to sort this by changing it to the correct name and then redirecting "Securities and Exchange Commission" there. DocendoDiscimus 08:20, 27 September 2005 (UTC)
Here is what you should do (should have done): MOVE the page Securities and Exchange Commission to U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, then change the links. If you go to Securities and Exchange Commission and click "What links here" in the "toolbox" on the left, you'll see all the pages linked to that page. Then you have to each MOVE one and change the link. WikiDon 08:25, 27 September 2005 (UTC)
PS Normally you will have to reply on the that users talk page for them to know that you did respond. It is also better to put the discussion on that pages talk page. WikiDon 08:25, 27 September 2005 (UTC)
OK - will move the page now; have already corrected quite a few links. btw, there are a number of pages that use the template, which always seems to link to SEC. Any idea how to get those pages to link to U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission?

[edit] How_to_move_a_page

PUT BACK WHAT YOU JUST DID.

You don't COPY+PASTE to move a page. READ How_to_move_a_page. You use the MOVE button, this moves the talk pages, the watch pages, the links, everything.

BACKUP and try it again.

WikiDon 08:47, 27 September 2005 (UTC)

I am not an admin, recommend you use: Requested moves and/or go to the admin page and see who is online now, then hit one up. WikiDon 09:12, 27 September 2005 (UTC)
You might try User:Curps I think he is on now. WikiDon

Okay, Curps moved it. Now you can begin your link fixes, there are about 70.

I wouldn't worry to much about the "user" pages. WikiDon

[edit] Merging "Stock Market Regulation in the United States" & "U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission"

I responed to your request to merge "Stock Market Regulation in the United States" and "U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission" @ Talk:U.S._Securities_and_Exchange_Commission#Merge_article WikiDon 10:47, 27 September 2005 (UTC)

Are you saying you agree with me, or that it should be merged? WikiDon

[edit] Closed-end fund links not "spam"

Why did you delete the links that explained closed-end funds? They were part of the sources of the article. They were not "spam"; they had not been put there to attract traffic to the pages; they were put there because they were a valuable resource for learning about CEFs. Hey, did happen to see the MAN AG talk page, and what I wrote? WikiDon 16:44, 8 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Invitation

Hi, Would you be interested in joining WikiProject Business and Economics?. Thanks. --PamriTalk 14:47, 10 October 2005 (UTC)

Hey..thanks for joining and keep up the good work. Can you please help sort this list of finance topics at Wikipedia:WikiProject Business and Economics/Version 1.0 assesment as per the criterion listed there. It has two benefits. One, it helps the Wikipedia:Version_1.0_Editorial_Team project and we also get an idea, where financial topics stand, in terms of coverage and content. Please feel free to ask, if you need any assistance. Thanks again. --PamriTalk 14:27, 11 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Contingent Analysis

Hi DD. The guy who put this up is an obvious crank. Can you add your vote to the deletion page, per your nom, so we might have a chance on getting it removed. --JJay 23:36, 17 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Forex

Hi. The link you just deleted was for once not spam but ... pointed to the international forex dealers association's website. I have been pondering for some time as whether to include a link to their site or not, as obviously their standards have slipped in recent years and their site is not worthy of an international body [2]. Henri Htournyol 10:07, 18 October 2005 (UTC)

Thanks. There's a helluva lot of work to do. I have been remodelling the French language finance pages since June but, frankly, until you came along last month and started cleaning up the mess on the English language ones, the task of upgrading these felt just too daunting. There are just too many people on this planet who speak English and think they understand financial markets and have access to the internet and wikipedia and want to communicate their "knowledge"... So many pages have to be entirely re-written,thanks to wrong concepts and wrong logic. Please do keep up the excellent work.Htournyol 10:37, 18 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Securities Template

I've added inflation-indexed bond to the securities template (the template certainly makes quite a difference in terms of pulling together all of the pages). I hope to turn the stub into something more comprehensive asap. EconomistUK 12:42, 18 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] WP:RM

Unlike WP:AFD comments about articles listed on WP:RM go on the talk pages of the article. I have moved you comment to Talk:Celesio. Philip Baird Shearer 10:17, 20 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] need a reason

When you use the tag {{db}} you must give a reason, eg. {{db|shit cruft}} for Chilidog. You gave no reason for the deletion of Warcombe Farm and indeed there was no good reason for speedily deleting it. If in doubt, use the AfD process. -- RHaworth 03:30, 26 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Lists of companies

Thanks for your comments on that AfD (though you didn't actually vote either way - was that intentional?) - at times they kept me from feeling I was going nuts. I've now effectively given up on that list/category issue; if some people insist the lists are useful, so be it, it's no skin off my nose. (I just thought it was skin off Wikipedia's nose because of timewasting and confusion and duplication.) Incidentally, who was "the person who has spent most time actually editing the lists"? Rd232 talk 00:01, 28 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Case Corporation

I am going to guess that you are not done working on Case Corporation? Right now it looks a little ill. Either make it a pure timeline, like in Detroit Diesel, or the timeline in Mack Trucks, or make it a proose article with paragraphs. Right now it is something in between, and doesn't look good. But, I am guessing that you know that, and it is just "under construction"....?? WikiDon 18:18, 28 October 2005 (UTC)

  • 1) Why did you respond on my user page, and not my talk page?!?!?!?!?!? Silly, don't do that.
  • 2) I know all about Case, if you will look at the HISTORY tab for CNH Global, and Case CE, you will noticed that I created both articles, also, I created Case Corporation, and intended to add more. I have also been working on Case IH.
  • 3) You changed the link from Case CE to Case, which is a disambiguation page, please put it back.

SLOW DOWN a little, quality, quality. WikiDon 18:36, 28 October 2005 (UTC)

Well, I worked in the CE business, so that I know a little about. The Ag business I am not as familiar on. WikiDon 18:58, 28 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Dominion of Melchizedek

I noticed that you edited the article that has the following:

"When the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission brought a civil suit again a lawyer operating a bank purportedly licensed by The Dominion of Melchizedek it was described as 'non-existent.[3] However, after settling that legal action, the Commission only identified 'The Dominion of Melchizidek (as having) a website promoting itself as a sovereign entity, recognized by certain governments'".[4]

Although your input was only on the U.S. bit, do you think it is better just to say that the "SEC, among other things has called the DOM 'non-existent'" or the more detailed one above. If you agree with me can you help me make the argument at the DOM talk page? Because a few insist (and now the article is protected with the shorter version) that the shorter version is less biased, fairer and more balanced. Sincerely, Johnski 07:59, 31 October 2005 (UTC)

  • Hello Docendo, Thanks for answering so quickly. I was hoping that if you were familiar with the SEC that you might see the wisdom in the longer version that you edited, because what the SEC states at the end of their case seems more significant than what they state at the beginning, no? Sincereley, Johnski 08:28, 31 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Please restore the Agfa page

Agfa is very much alive (thank you) and has survived the transition to the digital age.

FYI, Agfa and Agfa-Gevaert are the same company. In the USA, it's Agfa Corp. In Canada, it's Agfa Inc. In the Netherlands, it's Agfa B.V. In Belgium, where our head office is located, the legal name is Agfa-Gevaert, which is neat because it speaks to the history of the company. But around the entire world, both internally and externally, we call ourselves simply Agfa. No matter which country, "Agfa" is always included in the legal name for the company. The only company with "Agfa" in it's name, that is not part of Agfa is AgfaPhoto.

Kindly restore our Wikipedia page. If you would like to include a section on our old cameras and film, that is fine, but the "Agfa" page should take the user directly to the page about the company, not the old cameras. Past or present, we are still Agfa!

Thank you. JEL 03:07, 1 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Tea anyone?

I have added your name to WP:TEA. Good job! Owen× 22:00, 10 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Linkspam on Foreign exchange market

Hi, I've noticed that you commented in the discussion page of Foreign exchange market about standards for external links. I think there is a problem there with linkspam, but I'm not willing (or maybe not competent) to judge exactly what is linkspam and what is not, and to take on the linkspammers myself. Could you take a look? Smallbones 00:42, 4 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Featured list candidate

I thought you'd like to know that List of United States federal legislation has been nominated to be a Featured List. It needs 4 votes by October 2, 2006.

As I have labored hard on the article, I would appreciate your looking it over. You can find a discussion here: Wikipedia:Featured list candidates/List of United States federal legislation.

[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:Spykercars logo.png)

Thanks for uploading Image:Spykercars logo.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. [edit] Finance Portal

I saw your work on finance related articles. I have been doing a lot of work on the structured finance end of wikipedia structured finance, asset-backed securities securitization etc. I am interested in creating a Finance portal to start organizing the financial links in wikipedia. There is one user so far who has also been very active who is going to start work on this but were looking for some more. We created this site: Wikipedia:WikiProject Finance Would you be interested?

If you are can you email me from my user page --DrewWiki 20:02, 1 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Imf logo.png

Thanks for uploading Image:Imf logo.png. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Ilse@ 09:06, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

This is an automated message from a robot. You have recently uploaded Image:Agendia logo.png. The file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. [edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:Agendia logo.png)

Thanks for uploading Image:Agendia logo.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 16:06, 17 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Case logo.png

Thanks for uploading Image:Case logo.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 07:09, 1 January 2008 (UTC)
