Doc Otaku

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Doc Otaku is a character from the Freedom City setting of the Mutants and Masterminds role-playing game. Like most characters from Freedom City, Doc Otaku is similar to an existing comic book character, in this case the Marvel Comics villain Arcade, with aspects of other characters such as DC Comics' Toyman, and the Control Freak from the Teen Titans animated series. His name is based on Doctor Octopus (a Spider-Man villain, often referred to as "Doc Ock") and the Japanese cultural phenomenon of the otaku.

[edit] Fictional background

Solo Takashi is a child prodigy, earning his first doctorate by 12 years of age. He studied under the immortal genius and inventor Daedalus of the Freedom League, but was unwilling to discipline himself, and wound up turning against his mentor and becoming a criminal-- not for money, he had plenty of that, but for the thrill and challenge of beating heroes, especially Daedalus.

Doc Otaku is extremely brilliant, but is mainly a bored, spoiled child who sees life as a game and other people as potential playthings. He surrounds himself with robots of his own making, especially the Angel Androids, a trio of beautiful female toys dressed like Japanese schoolgirls, programmed to fawn over him and feed his already bloated ego. Most of his other robots resemble Mecha, the giant robots from Anime cartoons. He also utilizes android doubles of himself, as decoys to let him escape the scene of a lost battle (something that always enrages him).

[edit] In-game use

Because of the nature of this character, it is not likely he will be working with other villains. He can be a stand-alone villain, with the threat level varying by how many and what type of robots the Game Master chooses to give him, or can be a weapons supplier to other criminals.
