[edit] Academic Decathlon

Dobie is a two-time United States Academic Decathlon National Championship school winning in 1992 and 1996, respectively. The team finished 3rd at the 2003 nationals in Erie, PA.[3] Dobie has won the Texas State title four times and had a Super Quiz winning streak that lasted from 1991 to 2007. The Longhorns won 31 consecutive Super Quiz wins at the various levels of competition.

In 2002, the team made national news when it disputed its loss to Lubbock High School in the state championship competition. The debate arose when there were questions about the scoring methods used in some of the competition's events. Both Dobie and Lubbock prepared for national competition in Phoenix, Arizona as the lawsuit developed. The Texas Supreme Court ruled that the courts should not be involved in the administrative decisions of a private organization and the Texas Academic Decathlon awarded Lubbock the state title. Neither team had heard of this news until they were en route to Phoenix. At nationals, Lubbock went on to place 3rd while Waukesha West High School of Wisconsin won the national title. It was the first time a team outside of California or Texas had won at nationals.
