Do You Wanna Ride?, the debut album from singer Adina Howard, was released on February 28, 1995 through East/West Records. Upon the album’s release, Howard received criticism from some feminist groups for the album’s cover artwork, which they felt was needlessly provocative and sexist.[citation needed] Howard, however, made no attempt to play down the overall impression of raw, licentious sexuality, and the various videos released to promote the album were equally suggestive and erotic. A successful single, "Freak Like Me", was later covered by Tru Faith in 2000 (reaching number 12 in the UK) and by the Sugababes in 2002 (reaching number 1 in the UK). The album was certified Gold by the RIAA on 6/21/95. To date, "Do You Wanna Ride?" has sold over 1.3 million copies.
